Regular checkups/cleanings prevent problems and/or nip them in the bud. We can prevent cavities by teaching proper oral hygiene techniques, diet counselling, applying fluoride treatments, and sealing deep grooves on teeth as soon as they erupt. If some teeth have early cavities, we can find and fill them before they cause too much damage. Similarly, early detection is important for other developing problems such as oral diseases, bruxism, cracked teeth, defective old restorations, spacing/crowding problems in the growing child, etc. We can also prevent gum disease, which destroys the gums and bone that are the foundations of the teeth, resulting in eventual tooth loss. The damage is usually inflicted by a hard calcium deposit called tartar that builds up naturally on your teeth over time, especially under the gums where it's not visible. This calcium is a normal component of your saliva. Since saliva is produced 24/7, everyone will eventually build up tartar, which must be removed regularly to maintain healthy gums. That's why a dental "cleaning" should be done regularly even if the visible part of your teeth look clean!
A significant aesthetic improvement can be achieved affordably and quickly by the artful addition of white filling material to the outside surfaces of teeth, as shown in the above photos. Gaps, crowding, misalignment, and dark discolouration are common problems addressed by this technique. Although not as long lasting as porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding is nevertheless an excellent aesthetic option because it is cheaper and faster to do than porcelain veneers and does not require grinding away any natural tooth structure.
Porcelain veneers are the cosmetic restoration of choice because of their beautiful realistic quality, stain resistance, and long term durability. They're more expensive and take longer to do than cosmetic bonding, but the results are without equal.
Whitening your teeth is a safe and economical way to dramatically improve your smile. But store bought whitening strips and toothpastes don't work well, so they're money wasted. The reason is the whitening gel needs to have prolonged contact with the tooth surfaces, but the above methods allow saliva to get in immediately and inactivate/dilute the gel. For reliable success, we advise using whitening trays to hold the gel against the teeth and keep the saliva out. We have different tray options available to suit your needs, as well as concentrated gel for faster results.
Dental implants are titanium screws that are surgically placed into the jawbone painlessly to permanently replace the roots of natural teeth. A false tooth can then be attached on top of the implant to replace a missing tooth. Alternatively, the implant can serve as an anchor to hold a loose denture more firmly or even to eliminate dentures altogether. With implants, you will regain the look, feel, and confidence of eating as if you had natural teeth.
A crown is a "helmet" to protect a weak tooth, eg one with cracks, missing cusps, large fillings, root canal, and/or heavy wear. It usually covers the entire visible portion of the tooth and can be made of metal (gold), ceramic (porcelain), or a combination (porcelain covering over metal) that try to marry the strength of metal with the aesthetics of porcelain. However, the metal of these combination crowns often show through at the crown margins along the gums, resulting in an unsightly black edge. To solve this problem in the aesthetic zone, we now eliminate the metal in crowns by using the new ultra-strong ceramics that are as aesthetic as porcelain, yet almost as strong as metal, with an added benefit of no metal allergies.
A bridge is simply two crowns connected by an artificial replacement tooth.
Orthodontic treatment creates not only a beautiful smile, but also improves gum health and reduces bad breath because straight teeth trap less food and plaque while allowing the toothbrush and floss better access to clean the teeth and gums. We use removable clear aligner trays to move teeth gently into perfect alignment.
